Sh*t Happens

If I had a dollar for every person who has asked me how I stay "motivated" in my workouts, I would be retired instead of starting my business right now. Motivation isn't the key to your success though, so stop looking or waiting for it. Habits, friend, that is how we build the muscles. And how do we get these habits going? Consistency.

But there's more to it than that, right? I like to think so. With so much information out in the world, especially in the ever-growing industry of fitness, we have no excuse to not be doing something for exercise. Is that enough?

Having a plan that is specifically designed to help you reach your goals, fueling your body properly, getting enough sleep, those all need to be part of your consistency at the gym.

There is another side to this consistency that we should talk about though: Understanding that sometimes, shit happens that is out of our control and we need to be able to be gracious with ourselves to roll with that, take a deep breath, and jump back in as soon as we're able.

Listening to your body is going to serve you so well, people. What's that line? "If you don't make time for your wellness, you will be forced to take time for your illness." Yeah, that. You can workout consistently but also know when to take a break and let your body heal and rest. Balance in all things.

Bottom line here is this: Do good things for you - workout, eat nutritious food, drink tons of water, feed your soul. And when life happens - illness, work, family, pets, mental health - you have to roll with it and listen to what your body is needing through it all so when you're able to get back to the gym, it won't take that ever-fleeting "motivation," instead you can just let yourself fall back into the good habits you've already built.
